A Benefit for the Victims of Hurricane Sandy
“War to Restore NJ,” Hockey Night in Morristown!
New Jersey Colonials Coaches Vs. New Jersey Devils NHL Alumni Team
MORRIS TWP., NJ – Call it the “War to Restore NJ”, “War to ReShore NJ”, or “Ice Cool Duel,” but the New Jersey Colonials travel hockey club’s coaches will be taking on the New Jersey Devils NHL Alumni Team, in a FUNdraiser, to collect donations and food items to replenish local food banks and raise funds for the Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund. Join in on the fun Friday, November 16 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Mennen Sports Arena, 161 Hanover Avenue in Morristown.
The New Jersey Colonials is a travel ice hockey club based at Mennen Sports Arena. New Jersey Devil NHL Alums who have committed to play, include fan favorites: Ken Daneyko, John MacLean, Sergei Brylin, Grant Marshall, Bruce Driver, Pete DeBoer, Dave Barr, and others! Many of the New Jersey Colonial Coaches played for Division I and III college teams, along with teams in the USHL, European, and other prominent leagues.
The New Jersey Colonials want to help fellow New Jerseyans and Morris County residents that have had so much taken from them, in the aftermath of the storm. The Devils NHL Alumni team, along with Pete and Susan DeBoer, generously stepped forward to help meet that need!
Colonials President, Dede McMenamy, stated, “I suggested to coaches and managers that the New Jersey Colonials organize an event on behalf of the Hurricane Sandy victims. A game between the New Jersey Colonial coaches and the Devils NHL Alumni are the perfect fit.”
Assistance to assure the success of this event is coming from many different directions. New Jersey Colonials are encouraging their players to attend the event and cheer for their coaches. Parents of players, such as the State of New Jersey First Lady Mary Pat Christie, founder of The Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund, and Colonial board members are working to collect donations, staff the event, and much more. Also Reynold Fauci, Director of Recreation who manages Mennen Sports Arena, a facility of the Morris County Park Commission, rearranged ice schedules to accommodate the ice time. Others are coming forward with items to sell at the event. Colonial Board members have jumped in, too, with offers of assistance and soliciting donations.
All proceeds, 100%, will benefit local charities, which include: Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund and The Interfaith Food Pantry of Morris County.
Admission to the event is:
adults: $10;
youth/child: $5
and a non-perishable food item.
Suggested items to donate include: Parmalat, powdered milk, canned meats and meals, hearty and low-salt soups, tuna, peanut butter, nut butters and canned fruit. An expanded list is available at www.njcolonials.com. Checks are to be made payable to “NJ Colonials”, please add “Hurricane Sandy” to the memo line. Only checks and cash will be accepted. The Colonials are a 501 (C) (3) not-for-profit organization.
