A ‘Super’ Experience at Winter’s Day on the Farm
MORRISTOWN, NJ – What’s ‘super’ about Sunday, February 2 in addition to the Big Game in East Rutherford? A Winter’s Day on the Farm! Catch the action from 12 noon to 4 p.m. at Fosterfields Living Historical Farm in Morris Township. Experience a day-in-the-life as lived by early 20th century farm families when the estate opens its doors to offer traditional, hands-on winter-season farm activities.
Climb aboard the open-air, tractor-pulled wagon for a memorable ride around the farm. Get up close and personal to meet the farm animals, including horses, pigs, chickens, cows, and sheep. Weather permitting, watch the famers harvest blocks of ice from the pond using unique 1900s, ice-cutting tools. Then witness the magnificent Belgian draft horse team, Calvin and Hobbes, haul ice by sled to the ice house at The Willows, the Foster family mansion. Pitch-in and help with another cold-weather job, and tap the maple trees to collect sap. Lend a hand with on-going daily farm chores, such as collecting eggs and sawing wood. When you are exhausted from all the farm activities, follow the scent of savory seasonal foods cooking on the wood stove at the Farmhouse kitchen.
Warm yourself inside the Visitors Center auditorium and watch a demonstration of weaving on a loom. Visit the Transportation Exhibit, and view Charles Foster’s Rockaway carriage, and Caroline Foster’s Model ‘T” Ford and Hupmobile. Be sure to try all the interactive displays. Admission to a Winter’s Day on the Farm is $8 for adults, $7 for seniors (65+), $6 for children (ages 4-16), and $4 for children (ages 2 and 3). FREE for children under age 2 and Friends members. For more information please call Fosterfields, 973.326.7645.
