Wedding of the Century: 19th Century Wedding Fashions
MORRISTOWN, NJ – The Morris County Park Commission hosts Wedding of the Century at Historic Speedwell in Morristown, on Sunday, September 16 with shows at 1 p.m., 2 p.m., 3 p.m., and 4 p.m. Learn how weddings have evolved through 100 years of historic wedding fashions dating back to the Victorian period. Compare the past to the familiar customs we enjoy today.
An interactive tour experience in the Vail House features ten decades of historically accurate bridal fashions with a glimpse into how weddings transformed from a run-of-the-mill fact of life, to an enormous, expensive celebration. This experience will feature a thematic tour of the Vail House where docents will discuss wedding traditions and share stories from the Vail family history.
Admission is $7 for adults, $6 for seniors (65+), and $5 for children ages 4 to 16. Children under 4 are FREE. Due to limited space within the Vail House, reservations are required. For reservations please call 973-285-6550.

Celebrate the Annual Monarch Festival
MORRISTOWN, NJ – Join the fun at this popular annual event, Meet a Monarch Festival during the monarch butterfly’s peak migration time in New Jersey. Take a guided “Bug Safari” adventure through the butterfly garden searching for hidden critters among the colorful blooms.
Meet live monarchs from eggs to adults, and experience the monarch butterfly’s metamorphosis firsthand. Prior to the release, the monarchs are tagged in order for scientists to track their migration. Then witness the amazing release of live monarch butterflies as they begin their migration to Mexico.
Enjoy live music and storytelling, as well as crafts, including butterfly origami with professional instructors! There will also be native plants that attract butterflies and NJ butterfly guides for sale.

1920s Country Fair and Harvest Festival
MORRISTOWN, NJ – The Morris County Park Commission’s Fosterfields Living Historical Farm welcomes you to the 1920s Country Fair and Harvest Festival on Sunday, September 9 from 12 Noon to 5 p.m. for an afternoon of farm animals, exhibits, wagon rides, music, food, games, tours, and so much more! Special event fees are $8 for adults, $7 for seniors (65+), $6 for children ages 4 to 16, $4 for children aged 2 and 3 and FREE for children under age 2.
Meet the farm animals including horses, cows, pigs, sheep, and chickens. Give your best guesses at the cow judging, and piglet weigh-in. Hop aboard the open-air wagon for a unique ride, or go for a spin in an antique car. Watch the farmers operate a gasoline engine, tap your toes to the rhythms of the Long Hill String Band, or play old-fashioned games.
Lend a hand cider pressing, and breathe the aromas of woodstove cooking in the Farmhouse Kitchen. See many fine examples of hand crafts, baked, canned and preserved goods, and floral and vegetable displays. Local farm produce is available for purchase, and food concessions are sure to satisfy.

William G. Mennen Sports Arena Recipient of U.S. Figure Skating Community Grant
MORRISTOWN, NJ – William G. Mennen Sports Arena is the proud recipient of a 2012-2013 U.S. Figure Skating Community Development Grant in the amount of $2,000. Under this grant, William G. Mennen Sports Arena will launch this fall a new program entitled, “Explore Your Skills: A Chance to Try Different Figure Skating Programs!”
According to Jackie Palawasta, Mennen Arena’s Skating School Administrator, “This grant provides William G. Mennen Sports Arena the opportunity to offer a new type of group class session. This new program gives the skaters a chance to know what other facets are involved in the sport of skating. Competitive skaters may just want to have fun, while other skaters (who) may want to try something new.” With the aid of the grant, a new 4 - week session, beginning September 15 will offer approximately 5 groups of 20 skaters per group each the chance to try synchronized skating, ice dancing, ice theater, and “fun with freestyle.”
William G. Mennen Sports Arena is one of the top ten Learn-to-Skate programs in the United States offering year-round eight week sessions for ages three through adults. The sessions are coached by several former U.S. Olympians. Learn-to-Skate is a progressive, step-by-step program supported by United States Figure Skating. “We are excited to offer this new approach to figure skating to both those skaters already enrolled in our popular Learn-to-Skate program, and those who may want to try something new. Similar to our Learn-to Skate program, we will continue to offer classes sized for personalized attention,” according to Palawasta.
