Gift Cards Just in Time for the Holidays
MORRIS TWP., NJ – For those shoppers looking for both convenience and a perfect gift for the golfers and skaters in their life, the Morris County Park Commission is offering Gift Cards. These unique gift cards can be conveniently used year-round at either Mennen Sports Arena or any of the Park Commission’s four golf courses, including Berkshire Valley, Pinch Brook, Flanders Valley, and Sunset Valley.
According to Dave Helmer, Executive Director of the Morris County Park Commission, “We are responding to the many requests from skaters and golfers alike, as well as their family and friends, who want the convenience of a gift card. Now, a grandparent can give the gift of skate lessons, or a friend or colleague can give a round of golf or a gift from the Pro Shop. This makes gift giving easy.” These gift cards can be purchased online at www.morrisparks.net, at Mennen Sports Arena in Morris Township, and available at any open golf shop.
Each gift card is designed for their specific location, either Mennen Sports Arena or the Golf Courses. With just a swipe, users can purchase a food at the snack bar at Mennen Sports Arena, sign up for lessons, or rent a pair of skates, and enjoy a public skate session. At the golf courses, golfers can play a round of golf, enjoy the driving range, take a private lesson, and make a purchase at the golf shop. “It’s all about convenience from the purchasing of the card to the use of the gift card,” adds Helmer.

“War to Restore NJ,” Hockey Night in Morristown!
New Jersey Colonials Coaches Vs. New Jersey Devils NHL Alumni Team
MORRIS TWP., NJ – Call it the “War to Restore NJ”, “War to ReShore NJ”, or “Ice Cool Duel,” but the New Jersey Colonials travel hockey club’s coaches will be taking on the New Jersey Devils NHL Alumni Team, in a FUNdraiser, to collect donations and food items to replenish local food banks and raise funds for the Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund. Join in on the fun Friday, November 16 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Mennen Sports Arena, 161 Hanover Avenue in Morristown.
The New Jersey Colonials is a travel ice hockey club based at Mennen Sports Arena. New Jersey Devil NHL Alums who have committed to play, include fan favorites: Ken Daneyko, John MacLean, Sergei Brylin, Grant Marshall, Bruce Driver, Pete DeBoer, Dave Barr, and others! Many of the New Jersey Colonial Coaches played for Division I and III college teams, along with teams in the USHL, European, and other prominent leagues.
The New Jersey Colonials want to help fellow New Jerseyans and Morris County residents that have had so much taken from them, in the aftermath of the storm. The Devils NHL Alumni team, along with Pete and Susan DeBoer, generously stepped forward to help meet that need!
Colonials President, Dede McMenamy, stated, “I suggested to coaches and managers that the New Jersey Colonials organize an event on behalf of the Hurricane Sandy victims. A game between the New Jersey Colonial coaches and the Devils NHL Alumni are the perfect fit.”
Assistance to assure the success of this event is coming from many different directions. New Jersey Colonials are encouraging their players to attend the event and cheer for their coaches. Parents of players, such as the State of New Jersey First Lady Mary Pat Christie, founder of The Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund, and Colonial board members are working to collect donations, staff the event, and much more. Also Reynold Fauci, Director of Recreation who manages Mennen Sports Arena, a facility of the Morris County Park Commission, rearranged ice schedules to accommodate the ice time. Others are coming forward with items to sell at the event. Colonial Board members have jumped in, too, with offers of assistance and soliciting donations.
All proceeds, 100%, will benefit local charities, which include: Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund and The Interfaith Food Pantry of Morris County.
Admission to the event is:
adults: $10;
youth/child: $5
and a non-perishable food item.

A Civil War Christmas
MORRISTOWN, NJ – Experience life during the Civil War at Christmas time on both the home front and at a soldier’s winter encampment on Saturday, December 1 from 12 Noon to 5 p.m. and Sunday, December 2 from 12 Noon to 4 p.m. at Historic Speedwell in Morristown. At the encampment, visit and speak with soldiers from the 2nd NJ Brigade as they prepare for a holiday away from home. Walk inside their authentically reproduced huts, and watch them cook a holiday meal over a camp fire.
On the reverse side, you’ll get a feel for the home life during this period as well. Listen to the family read actual letters from Union troops written to their loved ones at the Vail home and see how it was decorated during the Civil War.
Attend a Civil War era Officer’s Ball, recreated in the 1849 Carriage House with live fiddle music, room decorated with pine and ribbon. An authentic period dance instructor teaches re-enactors and visitors on how to properly dance these historical pieces. Officers are clad in their best uniforms ready to dance with fashionably dressed women from the period.
With traditional crafts, treats, and more, you’ll be sure to have a full-day (or two) of entertainment. Also visit the Speedwell Gift Shop for unique stocking stuffers and holiday decorations. Admission is $7 for adults, $6 for seniors (65+), and $5 for children ages 4 to 16. For more information, please call 973-285-6550.
